Robot Feet
Yes, we're still alive--and probably not any busier than anyone else, so I have no excuse for not writing. I expect everyone reading this blog already knows all our news, but just to be complete I'll put here that I'm expecting a baby at the beginning of August. I'm very excited that we'll be going in for the ultrasound on Monday. I have been very impatient to find out what color of quilt to make, and whether I should knit little lacy sweaters or little stripy sweaters. Piper really wants a girl. Owen really wants to give the baby away. (I am still talking to him about this--I think he will be a good big brother when the time comes. If I can convince him that babies really don't cry ALL the time, or destroy EVERYTHING in the house.) Quinlan doesn't care either way as long as he doesn't have to move out of his bedroom.
My only other comment for today is, thank goodness for blogs. I think the pictures on this blog may be all there are left of my photos for 2008. Due to a computer virus and a badly timed accident with the external hard drive, I've lost both the original files and the backups of my photos. (ARGHHH! to say the least.) The guys at Hero Computers are still working to see if the hard drive can be reanimated, but I'm not optimistic. I guess we go to double backups now. Maybe I will actually print out some photos this year--what a concept. At least Mike takes pictures too, (and keeps them on a different computer) so all is not lost.

Friday at Last
My big triumph this week was convincing her to move her "nest" far enough into her room that we can close the door, so the rest of the family doesn't have to look at it. Honest, there is clear floor in the room just past the edge of the photo, but you couldn't tell it here.
And here's why we haven't seen much of Mike lately. These are the drawings he just completed for the building he's working on. They had to rent a U-Haul to get them to Idaho to the owner--they took up four and a half pallets.
As for me, I am very domestic this month. Mike was reminiscing about home-canned fruit, one thing led to another, and three weeks later I have twelve quarts of peaches and nine quarts of pears. It was really pretty fun--Piper and Owen have been off-track, so they helped me peel peaches and core pears. They had a lot of fun. Honest.

August
Owen helps me with the garden. We managed to save some peaches from the birds and the wasps. My tomatoes were slow this year, but I finally got some.

Going to Disneyland
We saw six lizards and a tadpole. Nobody caught any of them.
Then we did Disneyland on Tuesday and Wednesday. Everyone's favorite ride was actually in the California Adventure; the Grizzly River Run. I didn't take my camera out during the ride, but this is how wet everyone got from it.
Everyone loved the bumper cars.
The teacups were also a hit with the people in the family who don't get motion sick.
The fireworks were a favorite too (even though everyone was too tired to look like it).And shopping for souvenirs is always fun.
On Thursday, we went to the beach for a little while before we drove home. It's been too long since we've been to an ocean--each kid told me separately that the water tasted funny at this beach. They're used to lake water.
It was a fun trip--I don't know about the kids, but it definitely wore me out.
